Ok people I hope to marry in Poland next year but need paper work from Church for this. As I have not being attending mass for a while I don't really have a parish or know any one in the Church. I will start going to mass to get back to the church. I do feel guilty about it but I love my fiancé to do what ever it takes for her to have her dream wedding day.

I live in Dublin 8 so was thinking of going to Polish Church in High street. Does any one have any other Churches I could go too? Is it hard to get back into a parish? I believe there is a God but fell away from doing the Roman Catholic way of things. Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Regards Positive :)

I do believe in God I just stopped using Church & so have many people these days. My wife to be wants a Church wedding & very much believes in God. She has only stop going to Church in the last year or so because Sunday is our only day off together. Does not mean she has stop believing.

Why do you ask? Have you no advice for me magneticimpulse ?

Well what sort of paperwork do they require? I'm non-Irish and marrying my Irish partner in Ireland this summer...all that the church requires of me are my baptism and confirmation certificates from my previous church in the states. I haven't been through the doors of that church in close to 20 years, but had no problem obtaining the certs.

Perhaps it's different in Poland, but none of the churches or the marrying priests we considered required documentation that we were still attending services (good, because we're not).

If you haven't been baptised/confirmed yet that can take upwards of a year to go through the process, from what I've heard.

    Good luck!

Yes I should have made it more clear what I need. Documents I have so far are. Baptismal , Confirmation and I spoke to my school which can proved papers saying I studied Religion. The documents I have still to get are a Letter saying I am a member of a parish. Another saying I had confession (3 Months before wedding) & papers saying that we have completed pre marital course.
This is the Church side of thing which all have to be translated to Polish by registered translator. The civil documents are another month’s work :) .

July next year is wedding date so I have to worry now if I can become member of parish so quick.

    Thank you for reading

Just start going to mass... you'll get to know people. Even ring the Sacristan of he Church that you are going to start going to and explain the situation: that you have fallen away from the Catholic Church but that you are trying to get back into it etc and that you are geting married in a Catholic Church next year. Ask them what you should do to be a member of the parish? Also I know in the town I'm from everyone who lives on one side of the river is from one parish and the other is the second parish so might be worth double checking that. Not that I'm any expert but the Sacristan is so helpful, as is the priest who is marrying us from a different parish. They should be more than helpful...

Also once you have been baptised and confirmed there shouldn't be any major problems.

The other thing I'd wonder about is the letter of freedom that you need to get here? One of my oh neighbours got married in Poland last year and he still needed this so I'd just double check just in case :)

your heading is "helping getting back to the church". I was seeing if you need help to get back to it, why have a church wedding at all. It was just a question i thought id ask. Im not asking you about your faith, you can get married outdoors and still believe in God.

I just think its hypocritical for people to get married in a Roman Catholic church is they dont go to mass each Sunday. My advice would be then to get married in a non church related venue.

There are many ways to praise your god. Not so long ago, good deeds or lots of money given to the RCC would allow your soul to goto heaven. Now a days, living the christain way is usually good enough.

OP, as Sunday is your only day together, check the times for the evening masses: it may allow you to do the mass thing, but still be with yer OH on Sunday.

Yeah sure mass only lasts about 30 to 40 mins. And you can go together. You can go to morning mass and still have the whole day to spend together.
