Heres a good one for ye - walked aroun Bray Head on Monday from Greystones arriving in Bray about 12.30 pm fancied a pint of decent beer in the Porterhouse on the seafront so thougth woudl ring irish rail enquiries to find out the time of the next Dart back to Bray. got the number from directories ring it up and a voice message says the office is closed today but please go to our website. Of course if I had on line access that is what I would have done in the first place - I got the times from the barman in the pub using his ipod, but my point is this - why woudl national rail enquiries be closed on a bank holiday monday - and as it happens the day with 13,000 people running the dublin marathon - it just make s me think a national travel enquiry service running 247 might be worth considering.

There certainly used to numbers you could call that had the timetables on a pre recorded loop for this purpose; if it's still going that or ring the station in question the next time.

    that's a bit silly alright.

BTW the walk over Bray head is much nicer than the one around it ;)

I know it's not really the point, but btw irish rail have a text service that you can use to find the next few times for trains leaving a particular station. It's usually pretty reliable, and since it's automated it still runs on bank holidays.
