Just dipping my toes in the planning stages of a trip to India. Application for leave from work goes in this week so I'm debating the amount of time needed and best time to go. Thinking maybe 2 months but could look at more if I get it down on form by end of the week. The places that appeal most so far are mainly Rajasthan, Goa for a dose of beach life, fleeting thoughts of the Andamans as know someone there and Mumbai or Delhi on arrival or departure. Obviously you could spend months on end travelling through all these enchanting places but to give them a reasonable shot what time scale would you be looking at for some or all of the above?

    AB.

There was an article in the Sunday Times (24Oct) travel section about what to do with a month off and one of the travel jurno's mentioned India. Top to bottom (or bottom to top) by train. obviously if you wanted to stay longer you could break the whole thing up into sections.
If you can get a hold of a copy cool, if not, I could maybe scan it and email ye.

That's a very kind offer, I didn't get to see the Times last Sunday.
    Excitement mounts!!

Two months is plenty of time to see a lot, even in a country the size of India. I did top to bottom by train in that amount of time, effectively starting from Srinagar in Kashmir and then roughly Rajasthan-->Mumbai-->Kerala-->Chennai. Having said that, it did feel like a lot of travelling so don't try to see everything!

You'll find that the south is a lot less hectic and intense than the north so you have to decide if you want to start or finish in that vein.
