I bought a ipod touch 3g from a fella on adverts  came home turned the ipod on to listen to a few tunes but the sound isin't great  I have to have the ipod in a particular postion for it to play music on the 2 speakers, when I put the ipod in my pocket and move the sound crackels

How much would it cost roughly for a ipod jack replacement? any other cheaper fixes?

I would suggest that you attempt to contact the seller on adverts first, if the fault was not listed in the description - if he/she fails to reply report the buyer to help remove pr*cks from adverts.

If it's still under warranty, apple should replace it free of charge (warranty status should be listed here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do?newid=y)

An external jack? Sure the external jack has to connect to the faulty one which will replicate the same problem..

Just try contacting Apple and see if they are willing to replace it, if it's not under warranty they should quote you a price anyways.

    5. How long will my iPod service take?
If you choose to use the Online Service Assistant, or service via Apple Technical Support: If your iPod is not personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately one week from the time you send your iPod to Apple. If your iPod is personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately ten calendar days from the time you send your iPod to Apple.

They should specify when the collection is, it should be in the e-mail?

If not, ring them or email asking about it.

    Hi there,

I had a similar problem with an older ipod touch. I looked into getting the jack repaired but it seemed expensive.

As an alternative, I got a remote control unit which fitted into the dock at the bottom of the unit which had a headphone socket and that seems work.
    https://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-line-remote-controller-for-ipod-all-versions-11592

(not exactly this one but similar)

Not elegant but cheap - sourced it on dealextreme for about €3 bbut it took ages to get here - ebay may be a better option...

    Cheers
