Re-downloading music/app purchases

My cousins iPod touch was stolen and his parents recently bought him a new one. He doesn't have his own laptop and so never backed it up as he would just download music/games directly. Is there anyway to download all his purchases again or does he have to do each individually?

I'm definitely no expert but there's a chance he'll have to pay for it all again if he didn't back it up I'd say?

Umm I think you can do it. If you log into iTunes store with his account you should be able to start downloading. Im not sure if there is an easy way of downloading all purchases in one click though..

Apps are no problem, just sign in to iTunes with the same account and you can download them for free, just click purchase and it will say something to the effect of "you've already paid for this, downloading for free". Music is a bit more problematic, officially they don't allow redownloads but if you send them an email and ask nicely they do.
