    Hey guys

I know there are a good few of you out there playing with knee/patellia straps.

I was wondering if any of you guys have any info/suggestion as to which type to buy? I wont be comming back till after xmas but would like to look into this now. Which is better open or closed knee? hinged or unhinged?

    All tips welcome please

    Thanks

    Jonny

I luckily have never dislocated a knee, but be careful you don't get something illegal.

I suspect hinged supports may not be allowed if any part is rigid

You would probably only be allowed something like this knee suport:
    obj2240926?view=976

It would have to be fabric-based. Something with hinges sounds like it has metal/hard parts in it, which would be a major no-no

Make sure you talk to your physio/doctor first before trying anything.

would you go for the open knee one over a closed one?

I see what you mean about the hinges. I remember I had a wrist support that had a lump of metal in it. was great for palm offs :)

that look slike the vulkin on i was look at @ £30

Did a quick google and this thread says to go for open knee as closed knee is too confined. If you dont want to go to a doctor about it, do a Google for "open knee versus closed knee supports"

Did it myself and used the open knee Vulkin support. Not sure how much real support it gives but it certainly gives me psychological support. :)

I'd speak to a good sports physio if I were you though, some of them are against supports as they tend to not let the injured joint fully redevelop or mend itself.

yeh no i totaly agree mate thats why i havent even used a compression bandage as of yet to let the bike work do its thing. I think I want it more for as you say the mental side of it to stop the fear.

    cheers

The first session back in full contact is not the easiest but after a week or two you'll be back to normal.

Best of luck with the comeback!

    Hinged-supports are most definitely illegal.

I had a bad dislocation about 5 years ago and after then it popped another 4 times when either playing soccer and even once when playing gold!

For the last 3 years i have worn the Vulkan open knee support for any activity involing non linear movement and i have never had a problem.

One important point is to work on your muscle rehab and don't just rely on the support long term like I did.
