Applying for a career break and moving abroad to teach.

Hi, I'm an Irish trained primary teacher. I have my dip done and this is my third year teaching. Very lucky that I was made permanent in my second year teaching so in the position to be able to hopefully take a career break for the 2011/2012 school year. I'm looking at going to Abu Dhabi/Dubai for a year to go teaching and save some money and then hopefully head to Oz the year after and work as little as possible :). I'm just wondering if anyone has any info about how to go about applying for work over there (both places), schools/agencies to be avoided etc. Also, wondering how to broach the situation with my principal. Would like to try and have a job sorted before I apply for a career break but I know that I'll probably need references etc from my current principal to apply for jobs. Don't exactly want to end up with a year off and no job! Also wondering if it is a realistic idea to think that I'll be able to save a good chunk of money if working in the UAE. Thanks for any advice :)

Can't advise you re Abu Dhabi/Dubai, but re approaching your principal, the easiest way is just to go to them and say you're interested in taking a career break. It's up to your Board of Management at the end of the day, so you'll be writing the letter asking permission from them. It's more out of courtesy that you approach the principal first. As far as I can remember there's a form that needs to be filled in by you and signed and the BOM and sent off to the Department. There's also a form to fill in on your return, and it's worth ringing to make sure they've processed it properly.
