Eircom -> UPC service switch question...

I'm hoping to get some input from people who have already been through this proceedure - the house here has an Eircom line, which has been split up and is running all over the place. It's a bit of a mess.

Anyway, if I switch to the UPC telephone service, will the original telephone line still be operational, and if not can the new upc line be used in the way the ericom line here is at the moment?

When you switch you can port your number and then the old eircom line will die, they do that as part of the porting process. You can keep your old eircom line and use the number UPC give you as a second line.
