My 50th birthday is coming up at the end of November ! can anybody help me with a few suggestions on how to celebrate it.
We've recently moved here (mayo), we dont know anyone, deffinitly not enough to have a party anyway. I thought of just letting it go & just go for a few drinks, but now im thinking i might be a bit peed off on the night if I dont do SOMETHING! I am very much a people person, love a good laugh, im not worried about being 50 - as i dont feel it, or act it!!
But I do feel a bit lost as to what to do, so please people - id welcome any suggestions.

Invite friends and family down and throw open the house. Invite a few neighbours to break the ice and away you go. Went to one at the weekend - loads of ska music. Great fun.

My uncle held a surprise birthday for his family - he turned 50 and told some people hed go for a few drinks, told some more he was having a quiet meal and so on - everyone turned up to see he threw a party for his family - even though it was his 50th.

Basically he told everyone he didnt want a fuss and instead of having a party thrown for him, he threw one for his family, he didnt want presents or anything - he was a very generous guy :)

I.m.o. I couldn't think of a more appropriate time to host a party in your home, and invite your new neighbours, maybe ask them to bring some drink along and get to know one another. I'm not saying it's a good time simply because they're gonna give you birthday presents or anything like that, but like, if yere planning on settling there, it'd be a great way to start off the next 50 years! :D:cool:

I think; - please correct me if I'm wrong here, but that a very large portion of us just don't bother to get to know our neighbours anymore and it's a crying shame 'cos we all need neighbours ..... ;)

So I say go for it! Call to a few doors, make a few 'phone calls, drop some Notes/Fliers in through a few letter-boxes. and get the word around. :) Maybe have it as a themed party such as a Fancy-dress night to celebrate your Birthday, and hopefully it should be a good night to remember! :)

Best of luck with it if ya do! Let us know what you decide! :pac:

Thank you all for your great suggestions. this is what ive decided - we're going away to a hotel in Clifden for the week-end, (my birthday's on Sunday) Im bringing lots of Champagne, will lie around in a jacuzzi, eat, drink & completely relax & have a good time with my hubby !!smile.gif - But, ive also booked a long weekend in Rome in January, where I will do the same & maybe some sightseeing thrown in! & spaghetti & vino ..... "Mamma Mia!"

I think it would be nice, the party idea, & I agree, it is good to get to know you're neighbours, a lot of us see them more than we see our own families - but it is really quiet where we are & most them have small kids, also we will probably be moving again in a month or so, not mentioning the "R" word, but thats why we had to move in the 1st place....work! But lucky to have it, my husband got work here, nothing doing where we're from.
Anyway, going to enjoy my Birthdaybiggrin.gif - & thank you all again for your responses.
    Arrivederci cool.gif
