Right I've done searches and I think everyone will say go for something else but out of these 3 which would you choose.

    Opel Vectra 1.6 2007
Toyota Avensis Aura 1.6 Petrol 2007
Ford Mondeo 1.8 Steel Petrol 2007

Maybe I will go for something else test drove a 2007 Jetta and wasn't overly impressed, it was grand though.

My scoring would use the following in preferece

    1. Economical
    2. Pleasure to drive (Comfort, Noise)
    3. Maintenance.
    4. Size (Family car)
    5. Suspension.
    6. Motorway expierence

    Thanks for your advice.

I have been doing a good bit of looking around too.

I think the best Value for money is the diesel octavia but for a car that will last the Avensis

well on point one of your list economical... rule out all you ahve chosen...
    a diesel make more sense...

of the three u posted i would take the mondeo.... the engine is better suited all round..

the vectra would be next, i have a thing for vectras... really like them but the 1.6 is a bit ****e really

and the avensis will bore the pants off u, very reliable car, but so so boring

i will get it out there first.. why not an octavia 1.9tdi.... :D (edit, little tiger beat me to it )

I knew a Skoda would be mentioned. I might have a test drive.

I just cannot see how a 1.6 Vectra could be any less boring than a 1.6 Avensis. Also the Octavia while it has a large boot, it is from a class below these cars, front and rear legroom is limited due to this.
