TG4 Sound

TV is still the Panasonic TX-P42G10B (Freesat + Freeview)

Still able to receive all RTE DTT channels + digital text, RTENL haven't changed their transmission settings yet and hopefully they will not. For some time now I have no sound on TG4 (had originally). I've reset the tv to factory condition and retuned the lot but still no sound. On one occasion after retuning there was sound for a few seconds with an on screen message indicating that the tuner was 'Locked'. The message then disappeared and sound disappeared also.
Has anybody got this problem with this tv model? Is this another problem with the Panasonic being used for Irish DTT reception?

Change the audio option from Narrative to English/Irish. It seems to default to Narrative on the Panasonic Freesat combo range because of their Fisher Price firmware. You will have to do that everytime you visit that station.

To be fair, the default audio for the channel is the one with no audio ! Though, yes, if you change it, it should remember which audio you want on that channel until you change it again.

:)Thanks a lot STB, that fixes it ok, but as you say the option isn’t held.
Just checking the options available on all channels.

    RTE1, 2 and TG4 - Nar & Eng
    News Channel - Eng
    RTENL1 - Nar, Eng & Iri
    RTENL2 - Eng

Reading the TV manual, the preferred Multi Audio is set by the broadcaster, TG4 default setting is Nar all the rest are Eng.
RTENL1 is the only one with three options with the “Iri” setting giving a continuous test tone.

Maybe RTENL will change the setting on TG4 back to Eng which is what it must have been when I got the TV a year ago (had sound on TG4 then)

I’ve one other question as the TV is able to display RTENL in HD, might it also display Freeview HD when it starts up from Divis and signal levels are increased (My TV is not Freeview HD as some of the newer Panasonic combos are)

:(To SRB the TV doesn’t hold the Eng audio option when channels are changed – have to select the Eng option whenever I want to listen to TG4 audio.

No you need the G20B version. You need FreeviewHD on the TV.

Yup, that's what I meant about the default audio channel being the one with no audio, the TV is only doing what it's meant to.

No you need the G20B version. You need FreeviewHD on the TV.

Just to finish, The TV at the moment gives me:
    All analogue channels
All UK Freesat SD & HD channels
Some of the stronger signal UK Freeview channels
RTE SD and HD channels via the Freesat MPEG4 decoder - not the way Panasonic designed the TV, but thats the way it is at the moment.

:confused:If I can receive RTE DTT HD via the inbuilt Freesat MPEG4 decoder, shouldn't I also receive Freeview BBC HD etc when it starts.

Your problem is not MPEG4, it is the lack of DVB-T2 front end. Your digital receiver is only DVB-T1.
