Are Aerlingus strict on dimensions of cabin luggage?

    Hey guys

Going to Edinburgh in couple of days and thought my case was cabin size but its H63cm W36cm D21cm. Just logged onto Aerlingus site and their dimensions have changed I'm sure since i last flew with them to :

    Aer Lingus Flights
Cabin baggage must weigh less than 10 kgs / 22 lbs in total carried in one bag per passenger and be small enough to fit in an overhead bin or under your seat. The maximum dimensions for a cabin bag are 55cm x 40cm x 20cm or 22in x 16in x 8in. Limits are strictly enforced.
    Aer Lingus Regional Flights
Cabin baggage must weigh less than 7 kgs / 15 lbs in total carried in one bag per passenger and be small enough to fit in an overhead bin or under your seat. The maximum dimensions for a cabin bag are 43cm x 28cm x 20cm or 17in x 11in x 8in. Limits are strictly enforced.

Would they strictly enforce this as my bag is longer but not as wide as the max so it would fit??

Also we're flying from cork to Edinburgh with aerlingus on behalf of Aer Arann so is this regional dimensions? Couldn't find out as these are even smaller.

    Thanks

You mean Aer Arann on behalf of Aer Lingus? If so, then it's the smaller set of dimensions as the aircraft (and the overhead bins) are smaller also. Your dimensions are much too large for those bins.

I'm just back from Edinburgh. I flew out of Cork and to be honest they did not check hand baggage. However flying back from Edinburgh they are VERY strict on handbaggage. It has to be under 7kg and the size is much smaller than the normal aer lingus flights. All handbaggage was weighted and had to fit in the box they had at check in. Most people had to check in there hand luggage. Thankfully I didn't but as far as I know it was nearly £30.

I've been able to bring stuff on blatently over the limit a number of times. As long as you don't struggle with it, you'll be fine.

It also depends on how full the flight is. i went to and from London last weekend on Aer Lingus and on the not full flight over they weren't too fussy with what people were bringing on but on the way back it was a full flight and anything that couldn't fit into the stand they have where you board, had to go in the hold. They didn't charge for this though but there were a lot of people who would have gotten a quick getaway at Dublin that now had to wait for their bags - and you know how slow Dublin airport is for baggage reclaim!

They were being very strict from London Heathrow to Dublin. A guy was made put his bag into the hold despite being able to forcefully squeeze it into the baggage size checker at the gate.
