How does this work? Do files still need to be converted? If not how do you add them to itunes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,499 ✭✭✭IamMetaldave

Awesome little app. The paid version of the remote one has a lot of extra stuff, add / remove subtitles, DVD control. I think it would be worth the money for using with a media centre setup, accessing external drive etc.

Did you try it? :) Its all explained when you run it.

    Connect your iphone to itunes.
    Run the app.
Go to apps tab under your iphone in itunes.
Down the bottom you add the video files you want to put on the iphone.

    Voila!

Any body having difficulty adding files to vlc

I select the file and it does nothing

CineXPlayer is another media player alternative to VLC. I prefer CineXPlayer as natively it supports subtitles, and files can be deleted from the device. I found VLC player couldn't do the same when I tried it out before on the iPad.

For adding files you open iTunes, select your device, select the Apps tab, then scroll to the bottom, select the app, then click the Add button. Navigate to the file and double-click it.

    Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Fat_Fingers

    Guys,

VLC player is crashing on my iPad, is anyone else having this problem or any ideas what might be the problem. Thinking of trying cinixplayer too, does anyone have crashing issues with this player.

    Thanks

Yes, disaster since the last update. I was in Amsterdam yesterday and i loaded the VLC app with some .avi files of tv shows. Each episode of approx 50 minutes long crashed the app a minium of 4 times, every time i had to restart my ipad. I deleted last night and reinstalled it.

Yeah, I find it plays for about 10 mins and then crashes, any luck with reinstall ?

no crashing on Iphone, all working well.
Mind you, fast and busy scenes get a bit stuttery.. but that’s processor in Iphone unable to cope with it , not issue with VLC

Installed cineXPlayer yesterday and there are no crashing issues at all, so much happier with this than the VLC player

wont work on 3.13 software 3GS

    Needs 3.2

How is this on battery life compared to a converted video playing natively (ipod app) on the iphone/ipad?

I'm delighted with this, I just downloaded the free mac DVD to iPhone converter over on BA, And then I remembered that VLC was released and now I can just use that! :)

can anyone else translate this into english? they submitted the app, then lobbied apple to remove it??? or is two parts of the same company (vlc/vlcmobile) just fighting over bragging rights?

apple's policy of only allowing the app to be installed on five devices on one account violated the GNU license in which VLC is licensed under. he was right to pull it no matter how much i'll miss the app and how much others will.

Which they must have known before they put it up on the App Store? Plus the fact its free anyway. Seems a strange decision.

vlc iphone app is written by Applidium, the man that had the complaint is Rémi Denis-Courmont who is a lead contributor to the VLC project - also works for nokia - but has nothing to do with applidium.

it doesn't matter that the app was free or not, it used GNU licensed code, and the app store rules of 5 downloads per account breaks rules set out in the GNU license.

Hi, I can't Add VLC media player as a app, somehow it was deleted and now it's not a option. Does any one know why? Also is there any other way of watching movies/shows on iPad bar iTunes?

Here is the translation. VLC was released under the GPL. This license agreement basically says the end user should be able to do whatever they want with it (eg. Modify and reload back onto your device).

Apple devices do not allow you to do this, so the VLC app is breaking the license by being sold on the apple device.

Before people have a go at Apple or the VLC creators, the GPL was explicitly designed to stop products being released onto devices like the App store/iPhone/iPad.

The guys who created the app were breaking the rules and Apple was respecting the wishes of the original owners who released under the GPL.

    GPL details are here.

    http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

I've tried to install cineXPLAYER & VLC media player now a few times and I dont' think they are compatable with my iphone (mine is the 8gb model) can anyone confirm this is true

Also, if it is true is there another media player that I can download to play .avi files on MY iphone?

    Thanks
