Here's how to get a list of NI dealers

Select "Northern Ireland" in the drop-down box

    Tick "Sales"

    Hit <ENTER>-

thanks for the reply's, bringing it in from the UK would add couple of grand to it , which would defeat the purposes of going for the Ecomotive over the SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI version

The standard 1.2tdi is 72mpg anyway, which is roughly what the previous 1.4 tdi ecomotive returned. I think the new ecomotive can stretch to 80mpg, but costs around 800 sterling more in the UK.

Not sure how nice skinny tyres and long gear ratios are in real life.
Had a new model 1.9 TDI as a rental this time last year in Spain and was very impressed.

Don't think I'd get one over a polo though.

I'm pretty sure there is a tax break in the UK for cars emitting under 100g of CO2, but in Ireland there is no difference between 119g and 99g.

Usually costs more to buy the under 100g car and there is very little benefit (slight fuel consumption benefit), so a lot of importer's / manufacturer's don't bother bringing them in here.

I know Volvo sell very few of the Start/Stop versions of the C30, S40 & V50 compared to the 1.6D/D2 models as they cost more and there is no road tax savings. I'd say the fuel savings would be very minimal too.

In their review, CAR magazine said there was no point even in the UK, as the TDI is a better car anyhow.

The Polo BlueMotion is available in Ireland, but that costs €20k, has loads of stuff as standard though, including ESP which obviously is very important given the ever increasing emphasis on safety.

You'd have to ask yourself how much you'd actually save on fuel given that its about twice the price of a Clio

You can get a Ibiza 1.2 TDI for around 13,100 euro with scrappage, also the ibiza and polo share a lot of parts so you are paying a couple of grand for the VW badge, a bit like the VW Golf and Audi A3. Looking at the prices in the UK , the Irish prices are cheaper when the scrappage is taken into account,

The only thing about the ibiza is that it looks awful in a lot of colours and you need to go for a decent spec for it to look smart.

The one I drove was a stylance in silver. That was Spanish spec so don't know which irish model compares.
It had climate control and nice alloys, it also had cornering lights on the bumper which were dead handy and the handles and mirrors were colour coded too.

It's funny that when I saw the Irish model when it came out I thought it looked out of proportion and odd but from seeing them allong with tonnes of Leons, the styling grew on me big time.

BAck in ireland it doesn't look as good, as they're all basic looking in bad colours with tiny wheels.

I think the version you were driving is the style model in Ireland, i agree a lot of colours doesn't suit it , but the tax is 104 and does over 70 mpg sometimes when i look at the leon i think someone sat on the front of it and squashed it but i would get one over the new golf.

The golf has a way better interior than the Leon though.
It's a funny looking car, looks like an mpv but isnt actually as tall as a golf.

Have you priced a fiesta tdci yet?

I know a few people who had fords and all they had was problems with them when the car was 3-4 years old , i know not all fords cars are like that but when you hear so many stories about them breaking down i puts me off them.

Vw is hardly a paragon of reliability to be fair and the 1.2 is a new and unproven engine.
In fords favour, they have a bigger, better dealer network and the fiesta has a good rep. I'd also say the fiesta will be worth more in a few years.

SEATs are vw when you buy them but SEATs when you sell them.

I known all cars have the problems and some hold onto their value more than others, BMW and Seat are the worst for holding onto their value. The VW i had for the last good few years has given me little problems. If i get the Seat i will be holding onto it until it falls apart and that could be in 5 to 10 years.I know a number people who bought fords and had them for a year or 2 and then got rid of them for a VW,Opel, Audi,BMW etc. I don't know anyone at the moment who has a ford.

Anyone own one of the 1.2 tdi's ? I am thinking about buying one too. But as mentioned in the thread earlier the difference in price between the clio 1.2 petrol would buy you alot of diesel.

Anyone like to tell us how they are getting on with a 1.2 tdi ? Real world fuel consumption and range to a tank of fuel would be good to know
