I'm having similar problems. Its intermittent. Three days ago I had the problem. Yesterday it was gone and today its back. I can acces most of the web but when I try to log into some sites they just 'load' for ages and evetually Firefox says "The connection has timed out"

http://discussions.apple.com is quite problematic. Some times I can access the site, sometimes. But I can't login at all

Amazon.uk also is also giving me trouble trying to login. When/if the login page does eventually load its formatting is allover the place.

Any one have any ideas what's causing this?

    Hi Deck,

the issue seems to be only with SSL, i.e. usuually whenever you need to login... Mine is working again now, but for periods of time I cannot access hotmail, Bank Of Ireland, etc etc and then it just magically starts working again...

But it's been down for prolonged periods of time... much more than you would expect..

Yep I'm having the same problems as well, unable to login to ebay or amazon or even open paypal. Been like it for a few days now. Odd thing is I can access my work email (https). Going to try and give them a ring and see what the heck is going on as it's really starting to pee me off now.

Got this from Amalgam in the three mega thread (not sure how to quote him\her directly from here)

have you tried using OpenDNS. I find it often cures any Three.ie access issues.

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

I set this up and all sites are now opening for me :)

Thank you drunk monk, that seems to have fixed it for me too:).

Today I was having difficulty with non- ssl sites like www.sony.ie and www.philips.ie and OpenDNS seems to have sorted it.

    Thanks again

How do I change the DNS settings? Looking around on the router homepage I can't see where to change it.

That was my problem too!. It turns out it it had nothing to do with the router or modem. For OS X I followed this, and there is Windows info too

Its a bit hard to find what you want on the OpenDNS website. At first I thought you had to register to avail of the service but you don't. I just tapped in the DNS numbers and it worked.

And there are a couple of Test Pages to see if your actually using OpenDNS when your done.

As an aside, I searched on Lifehacker re OpenDNS and one comment on this page recommended using a tool called Namebench to select the fastest free DNS for a particular location. Haven't tried it but it looks interesting.

i just came across this thread via google search - i thought i was alone with my 3 dongle problems!!!
i havent been able to login to ebay / paypal in a good while and apple.com won't load at all. that is until i tried the open DNS thing listed above! apple.com can now load.... but paypal / ebay still not working :(
tried the test page and it does say i'm using open DNS. what a pain!

no i hadn't. i just changed it now and it works! it's great to get a work around - though hopefully 3 can sort it on their end so people don't have to go changing settings.

    thank you!

    Hi Lads,

what exactly are the up to date settings for a router to connect to the Three broadband network...

I was having trouble for the last few days connecting, so I took the 3g device and used it on the USB port of my PC instead... and it's fine (so it's not that the network is down)... it seems to get a much different IP range.. here's a copy of the settings I had been using fine up until yesterday..

    3settings.jpg

gonna contact Three and see if there is an issue..

I can't get into AIB online banking. Using 3's Huawei B260a router. How do you change those DNS settings?

3 are useless. They just say there were problems and they seem to be resolved. Call customers services /and get put through to lots of people who don't have a clue until you run out of credit//

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭akamossie

    its free calls!!

just tried to log in to my aib internet banking, and working fine!!!

Not sure is the affect from areas or what??

Try 3internet as the APN and let us know if that makes any difference :)

Just one small point that needs to be mentioned with SSL connections the clock on your PC has to be set to the same time as the system you are connecting to give or take a max of 5mins.

If the time is out on say a NAT router that your SSL data passes through then that can also prevent SSL from working, that might have been part of the issue that 3 had/have, the routers would work fine for most traffic but https logins would fail.
