hiya, im thinking of selling my netbook i bought last xmas, the only reason is because i bought it in brown , and i want to buy the pink one instead! i know, stupid reason, but if i can sell it i dont see why not!

my question is, how do i make it ready for the potential buyer, how do i wipe all my stuff off it?? is it as simple as just deleting my files?? is there a quick way to do it? what do most people do? im not very technical so be gentle with me, i only use it for surfing the net and my photos.

    thanks!

What you are is a superficial, brainless idiot.

Anyway, to delete all your files do the following:

    • Hit the F8 key within 10 of turning on the machine
    • Select the command prompt option
    • Type format c:
NB - you then have to reinstall Windows

    Disregard that post please..
(I have reported it, uncalled for).

Pearljamfan, could you post the details of the model no of your netbook.

And I'll give you a step by step guide, if possible.

It is easy, it just takes a combination of a couple of keys and presto.

I think that the Vaio has a special "Vaio recovery wizard" which can be found in the control panel (Start->Control panel).

If you go in there you should be able to restore the device to it's factory settings (Just make sure that it's left plugged in while it's doing this, and it's likely to take an hour or so).

I think on the VAIO, by pressing the F12 numerous times as soon as the Laptop is powered on access the recovery partition.
This is a seperate windows interface which will give you several options.
The option to pick is to do a clean install & this will restore everything on your laptop back to factory settings. NB save all your documents to an external source such as flash drive or ext HDD before you start as the process completely wipes & reinstalls windows.

    Hope this helps.

after you've done the recovery restore use sdelete to wipe the free space otherwise files can be recovered with the likes of photorec

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897443.aspx

to run it in a command prompt

    md empty
    cd empty
    dir

(the above steps make an empty folder so if you screw up it wont
    sdelete -z

(if you have a D: drive in your computer after removing all external disks)
    sdelete d: -z

usual warning about files gone forever
