Ok so I was looking at buying one of these for 599.
I am currently vodafone ready to go and want to stay pay as you go.
I would be mainly using it on my wifi network at home anyway.

Vodafone seem to be sold out of them pay as you go.
Can I just put my current sim in the iphone 4 so?
Someone told me the sim is smaller than normal.
Can I just go into vodafone and swap my sim for the smaller one, keeping my old number and ready to go account?

Or, is this a stupid way of doing things?

The iPhone 4 takes a smaller SIM (Micro SIM) than the one that's been standard for the past number of years. I remember reading over on the Talk to Vodafone forum that you can get your SIM swapped for free for a Micro SIM at any Vodafone store.

You could also cut your current SIM down to size yourself if you were so inclined:

    http://www.techradar.com/news/computing/apple/how-to-make-your-own-ipad-or-iphone-4-micro-sim-681020

Adapters exist if you ever needed to put your future Micro SIM in a regular SIM sized phone.

Using your old Ready To Go account is fine, but just check out the Data rates on your current plan. I know you said you'd be mainly using it on Wi-Fi, but unless you're very careful how you set up and use your apps, it's very easy to use data over 2/3G, and on a PAYG account, even if you only use data like that for a second, you get charged a full day's use (99 cent). So it's easy for it to add up over a month. Vodafone have an offer at the moment where if you're on the Advantage Plus pay as you go plan, and you top up by 30 euro a month, you get 250MB free data a month. See here for details and how to opt in: http://www.vodafone.ie/offers/prepay/freecallstxt/

But you'll have to do a bit of looking at your call/text/data habits to see if that's worth your while.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I was also thinking of buying a certain someone one for Christmas.
    It's probably a bit awkward.

    nothing awkward about it man!
if you dont want to cut your standard sim just go into one of the stores, ask for a blank replacement micro sim and then do a sim swap from your number to the micro sim. all done in 5 mins max!

I got mine in the exact same method. You can go into the Vodafone store (not online) and they should give you a new microsim for free. Then you ring Vodafone and they will move your phone number over to that sim from the old one.

    Great thanks everyone.
    Really appreciate all the replys.

Just by the way, vodafone seem to be sold out of iphone pay as you go, would you imagine they will be getting stock in before Christmas or are they still generally in short supply?
