ELV (End of life vehicle)???

    Hi,

Hope I've posted this in the correct board.

I've recieved a letter from the Environmental waste section of Cork C.C. asking me to reply in writing if I am still using the car registered in my name. Apparently it has come to their attention that my car has been stored for a period of time in an un-authorised ELV facility in County Cork.

But the car is parked at my door, and has been since I bought it back in Feb. 2010!!!

I bought it 2nd hand (private sale, didnt use dealer). I taxed and insured the car back when I bought it and have just put it through NCT, so wouldnt any problems have shown up at one of these stages?

Im half afraid to ring Cork CC for fear of what they are going to tell me.

Has anyone heard anything like this before, or recieved anything similar, or even have any idea what it could mean?

    Thanks.

Worst case scenario is that you may have bought a cloned car (e.g. a stolen car with details of a crashed one).

I'm assuming that they've found an illegal dump or scrapyard somewhere and there's a car with your reg plate on it. This wouldn't have shown anywhere as they wouldn't have known it was there.

The other possibilities include them having done some creative reconstruction on a misread plate or VIN of a very similar car found in an illegal dump.

Maybe you should just double check the VIN number on the car compared to the tax book.

Definitely a good idea. Both on plates and any etched places. Also the engine number.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I rang the office, but wouldn't ya know..the guy dealing with it is on holidays..so another week of trying to not panic!

Senna, that's a good idea, but where would I find the VIN number on the car?

    What make/model/year is the car?

Usually either through a little, erm, "window" in the windscree - a gap in the black bit around the edge (look in from the front); or under a flap in the drivers footwell.

Often its on the fire wall between the engine and the cabin too
