I noticed a sign on the old church building on the Kilmacud Road in Stillorgan that a new bike shop was opening there shortly, anybody know who the owner is and when it's opening?

Hey lads yeah that's me alright, bin stuck into it for over a year and nearly there now, wanted a new kind of bike shop, faffy as that sounds, with new brands, better service etc, so we've gone for it, shops getting there, 200 bikes coming in the next few weeks, all relatively new brands to Ireland, exciting and terrifying all at the same time, we're launching it mid-nov, call in if youre passing in the meantime!!

I know where I will be in future while the wife is next door buying the fruit & veg !!!!

I walked past it twice this week. Door closed, contact details taped, but I didn't see any info about opening date. The new sign is nice.

I was told that there is a bike shop opening shortly in the centre of. Blanchardstown Village.

So many new bike shops have opened in the recent past and they all seem to be on a large scale, even with the increase in popularity in cycling especially due to the bike to work scheme is there really enough room for them all? Not forgetting the huge competition from online bike shops also.

Well, Blanch doesn't have any bike shops (excluding Halfords and 53 degrees north), and there are about 200,000 people in that area.

I think it's by a current manager from the cycle superstore

If not the manager, someone that works there

where abouts in Dalkey? glad to have on on my doorstep but I wuld have thought the area was well serviced between Mikes bikes in Dun Laoighaire and the one on Jonstown road as well as Halfrauds just up the road.

best of luck to all of these new start ups.

Its a good area for a bike shop no doubt and could be served well by the general public lookin for a halfords alternative. There are no dedicated shops in blanch but you do have Wheelworx on fonthill, Staggs in lucan, a couple on the long mile, a few in tallaght. All these large retailers are a short hop from each other really. Is there really that many leisure/racing cyclists in this area?

Tallaght seems to be the place to be alright for bike shops. After Cycle Superstore moving a few years ago to their nice new premises Cycle Inn have apparently opened a huge big premises in the retail area around High Street/The Abberly Court. Anyone been there yet ? It's pretty crap in Blanch alright.

Some pretty funky bikes on the landing page, there's a funky looking commuter and the fold up looks interesting.

    Hey lads,

Really don't wanna get in trouble for being overtly commercial on here but as a long time boards.ie follower I hoped it'd be ok to simply bump this thread by announcing the opening day of my new bike shop in Stillorgan this Saturday, there'll be food n grub as well as 10% off all orders & purchases on the day - it'd be great to meet some boardsies and get their, as ever, uncensored views on the shop itself!

Hope I'm not in trouble for this! If so I'll take it down just lemme know!

    Thanks,

    Paul Fitzsimons aka Tackleberry

Just called in today to see what it's like, have to say I like it. Bumped into Kenmc at the counter, got chatting to tackleberry for a few minutes but he was busy trying to keep everyone in the door smiling. Liked the grass on the ground as well, meant no slipping in my cleats and a nice selection of bikes and I'm told they will be expanding in the coming months (those Stevens bikes look nice), staff were all helpful and as typically happens when I walk into a bike shop with no reason to buy anything, I got myself a helmet light for my routesheets and a nice looking cap. As for value, I didn't look at the pricetags, except for the things I was interested in and Tackleberry told me to be critical, I checked online afterwards because I am a cheapskate and was pleased to find I saved money compared to CRC on the light and the hat, the mudguards I was going to get but decide to leave behind where the exact same price as CRC, give or take 50 cent. I'm normally happy to pay a bit over internet prices in an LBS because thats what you expect so i was impressed with this.

It's hard to judge a business on it's first day but if you continue like you have started it should go very well. You will certainly see me in the future anyway.

On a separate note and far more importantly, there was a couch with TV and magazines to sit down and relax, which I thought was a nice touch and I was provided with a cup of coffee and some spectacularly tasty cupcakes, all said and done, very glad I called in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

Yeah, popped in too, some lovely stuff. Wasn't really looking to buy anything except some bar tape, which I got handy, so I can't comment on the prices. Nice layout, and was buzzing with punters which was great to see.
    Best of luck with it!
    K

Just got my two bikes serviced, left the 3rd and the 4th one will be following. The guys are awesome in there and the shop looks really cool. Thumbs up! icon14.gif

8 months on and as a local Stillorgan resident and Boardsie addict I can report that the shop is still flying along. I've purchased two bikes for the family there and there's always a good buzz in the place. The lads themselves are very professional and patient with those of us who don't know what we want.

All in all I'd say Fitz Cycles has been a great addition to the local community and wider cycling fraternity.

    Well done lads.

    Ben

Sorry for the age of the bump, but just felt I had to post in this thread.

I found myself in Fitz Cycles today and was poking around, and decided to buy one of these - impulse purchase:
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=74871

I've been trying to get some of my stuff (lock etc) off my back and onto the bike somehow and haven't been able to settle on a good way to attach a rack for reasonable money.

I bought this Topeak thing for €29.99, and the lads fitted it for free (so same price as online basically, but with personal service).
I had it on the bike for about 10 mins and was shocked at how much it threw off the handing of the bike. I expected a bit of a change, but nothing like this. It might be because my bike is set up for fairly whippy handling so I felt it more, I'm not sure exactly, but it really put me off.

Back to the shop I go to see if I can swap it for something else or get a credit note.

The lads patiently listened to me explain my idiocy. Took the basket back off the bike (again, free of charge), and gave me the refund in cash with a "don't worry about it, it's no problem, we hope you come back when you know what you need" attitude.

Patience, top notch service, excellent pricing - all in all an excellent LBS.

I'll be back, again and again. 11/10 lads!
