Digitising old images

    Hi, bit of a beginner question, but I'm afraid I haven't seen this answered in the FAQ.

    Effectively, I'm trying to digitise old family photographs. I have the negatives for some but not all of these photos, if that is even relevant. One option I have is to scan the photos using a flatbed scanner, but I was wondering if there was another, better, alternative available as I don't want to lose any more image quality (some of these photos are quite grainy).

    I'll take any other suggestions on board.
