Argos Christmas catalogue & iMac - caveat emptor

The 21.5" iMac in the Argos Christmas catalogue caught my eye, it's priced at 1,149 which is 80 euros less than the list price which is what you'll be quoted in all of the mainstream retailers around town. Even though the specs. mention all the features of the 2010 i3 model, in fact if you take the catalogue number quoted (508/2824) and check it on the Argos Ireland website, that catalogue number refers to last year's core 2 model though the price is less at 1,109.

The correct catalogue number for the 2010 i3 21.5" iMac is 508/4344 and the price is 1,199 which is a discount of 20 euros off the list price.

    Old model (core 2 - 1,109)

    New Model (i3 - 1,199)

For the sake of €20, I'd rather give the business to the likes of CompuB. They support the platform unlike Argos who just cash in on it.

Agree 100%, I'm just warning people not to order from the Christmas catalogue cause if you do you'll get last years model even though they claim it's the i3 which it's not.

I would imagine that selling an older model and passing it off as the current model would be a textbook violation of the Consumer Information Act. I mean, if one model has a Core 2 Duo processor and the other has a Core i3, it's going to be easy enough to prove - Apple's laptops at least have a sticker on the side of the box listing the hardware components. I assume this is the same for their desktops.

You're right in saying that it's easier to avoid the hassle of having the argument though, especially with a retailer like Argos where your first struggle will be finding a member of staff who even cares about your problem.

I'm not suggesting that there's any attempt at deception here, the Argos website has both 21.5" iMac models (core 2 and i3) and they have separate catalogue numbers, someone just made a clerical error inputting the number for the model that's in the Christmas catalogue.
