Price hikes due soon?

Am I being fed a line by a computer salesperson?

I'm in the market for a new laptop, nothing top of the range but not keen to revisit the 500 euro space owing to my complete dissatisfaction with my current flimsy, bug ridden, dead-battery model.

Browsing through the wares of a certain retailer the very helpful assistant assured me that one should buy right now because in a few month's time, component prices are going to start going up because of factory closures in China and the likelihood of a shortage.

Anybody heard this or was he just trying to scare me into making a quick purchase?

While i do agree with you, sometimes these rumours have a foundation elsewhere. RAM and other chip shortages or oversupply have in the past raised and lowered the price of such, and the hardware they're added to.

a quick search reveals many rumours: http://www.google.ie/#sclient=psy&hl=en&q=pc+components+shortage+price+rise&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=5c4b60bee85278bf

Snickers, I'll give you the same free advice i always give everyone about buying tech: if you're in the market for a laptop, don't wait about for the next best deal that may never come. Unless you're waiting for something specific, you'll be waiting forever. Set your price limit, get the best spec yiou can for that cash.

    My sentiments entirely.

In truth I don't need one RIGHT NOW, but will do shortly. I was just wondering whether there was going to be a general hardening of prices in the next month or so, Christmas rush notwithstanding.
