Crappy title aside I watched Lake Mungo under recommendation by a fellow boardsie and I have to say...its a lingering huar of a flick!:D

One of them faux-documentary movies. Interviews, found footage, reenactment etc basically following a family as they cope with the death of a teenage daughter after a drowning accident. And having read a good few reviews (after the fact) I'm torn as to whether it was good or not. Both camps make good points. But the fact that I couldn't sleep last night and woke up after only a few hours rest has me leaning towards the "good movie" group.
The twists were surprising and strange, the one with the neighbour especially, and the final outcome, the ghost in the desert (horrible and terrifying!), the photos (borderline creepy), the phone video (while hard to watch added a sense of realism to it) was well played. But moreover its the image of the chick standing over her parents bed that lingered with me.
But this isn't strictly horror. Sure death of a child, then to find out she was coerced into a sexual relationship with a neighbour is horrific. The images of the girl in the photos were bad but not near as bad as seeing your neighbour crouching in your daughters room in the middle of the night... Not a slasher, more psychological but even without the "ghosty" bits it was chilling.

Slow burner, stick with it for the rewards, watch all the way through to the credits and watch the original before Hollywood try to remake it!

    Bump for this!

Watched it tonight and enjoyed it... been on a bit of a 'faux-documentary' binge recently, and thought this was very good.

There was a lingering sense of creepiness throughout the film, and the only strict horrific image in my mind was
what Alice captured on her phone in Lake Mungo
. As I've already mentioned, there was a lingering sense of eerieness and tension throughout.. and it rarely lets up. We get a couple of nice twists along with some truly creepy images.

But overall, very entertaining and well worth your time.
