    Bet he didn't predict that.

Always thought there was something fishy about his predictive powers, yet we accepted him hook, line and sinker.

Fare thee well Oracle of the Gods, you're accurate predictions were only ever matched by your sharp wit and devilish good looks.

    RIP

Was he expected to die? How long should they live? And other basic questions you would expect the newspaper article to spend two sentences clarifying.

I think I remember Glendenning saying he'd be dead by Xmas, given his age and expected lifespan.

    What's the plural for octopus?

    Octopus? Octopusses? Octopi?

I'd go for Octopus being the plural for Octopus.

    *smug journalism graduate walks in*

octopuses, octopi or octopodes are all valid.

*smugly strides off into the sunset*

    ;)

no better accolade can be given to him than the fact he made the World Cup just that much more interesting, for no reason whatsoever other than it was fascinating watching him win the equivalent of 6 or 7 coin flips in a row, during one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.

    fair play o tenticled one.

In that case, he was one of the coolest octopodes I've ever known.

In his memory they should play this weeks cup games over 8 legs.

1-2 years . Paul was a common octopus, a giant octopus can live for a bit longer but usually an octopus would die within the 1-2 year period. They'll always die after spawning, sometimes even before. Paul was an old enough octopus.

RIP Paul the Octopus...Call me old-fashioned but I think he should be buried at sea. It's what he would have wanted.

Someone posted a photo of his coffin on the AH thread.
I wonder how many Paul-bearers it will need.

Turns out he's not dead after all- he was worried that the sea-life aquarium lacked ambition- but he has now signed a lucrative 5-year contract
