Do you get cut for winning/reaching the final of a Club match play singles?

    Cheers

It'll be looked at by your handicap committee in the annual review. Most likely you will, especially if you've had other success/shown form elsewhere this season.

I think it's typically 1 shot off for the winner and 0.5 off for the runner up. I stand corrected on this though, but it was certainly the case in my own club last year.

If you're category one, you won't be touched.

There used to be fixed cuts in place for this kind of thing... including interclub finals, featuring in a few team events (classics etc), club matchplay...
There were different cuts for different categories and as far as I remember, CAT 1 golfers off 3 or less went untouched... still in cat 1 but off 4 or 5 and you got a very small adjustment... cat 2 a bit more etc.

All this has since been replaced by the annual review (anyone still have details of the old way?).

Another point of note, CAT 1 golfers can only be given a general play cut after seeking permission from the GUI (province) and similarly you can't cut a CAT 2 golfer down into CAT 1 without permission via general play adjustment either.

I think you are right Licksy.

I won the club match play a number of years ago, two years in a row, and got cut 2 shots each year!
The runner up was supposed to be cut one shot but because they were former Captains they did not get cut!
It was a local rule then.

I do not agree with this Annual Review thing under the Congu rules.
Example - Crazy to think one can bring in 45 points in Society golf and nothing can happen to the handicap until year end.
Also, if one comes in with scores in the 'buffer zone' for - is it 6 or more competitions - one may or is cut a shot! Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Another handicap rule that was meant to happen this year but doesn't seem to have is 9 hole qualifying competitions.

Basically the weekly 9 hole comps was to have 18 points added to the score and if you broke the CSS you were to be cut at the end of the year!!

    Stupid question time:

Would it be common practice or not to hand in cards from casual rounds for annual review?

i went through a phase this summer of not being able to score or staying within buffer zone in a competition but on a casual round (played a lot off competition markers) i managed to score very well. Don't want to be classed a bandit now i'm playing in the winter league. I still have all my old cards here.

Any time I play society golf I hand in my card. Don't know why I bother really to be honest. I've often handed in society scores of 44/43/42 points but never had any adjustments made.

It was implemented at my club, so it just may not have been implemented in all clubs. Every Friday evening during the summer they would have a nine hole competition in the format you described. Didn't play any myself but guess it was handy for the clubhouse members who work 9-5.
