UK get new tabloid - the Independent for commuters

    The UK broadsheet Independent has launched a cut down version known as simply as "i", it went on sale this morning at a virutal giveaway price of 20p (can you imagine getting anything here for that?). 56 pages, no long articles designed for commuters and browers...

    Hard to see this ending well for the publishers as its bound to take sales from the parent paper at a fraction of the cover price and so turnover will fall while costs remain fixed. Circulation is aimed at 250,000-280,000 copies.

    I'd agree there - only will eat into the main bread winner.

    The Independent in the UK is a joke, frankly. It'll disappear probably around the same time the Sunday Tribune is acquired by the Carlow Institute of Technology Students' Union's newspaper - as an act of charity.
