    Hey guys,

Can anyone tell me what the RAW software is for Nikon?

For my Canon 450D I have Digital Photo Professional which allows me to edit and convert RAW files and can be downloaded from the Canon website. But I need the equivalent for Nikon. Does it vary depending on what camera you have?

You have to buy the Nikon RAW converter separately.

On the other hand, if you use Photoshop, simply download Adobe's DNG converter and away you go:

Something like Raw Therapee might fit the bill either if the OP just wants to play with a few Nikon files

You can download Nikon View NX (for free!) which is the Nikon RAW viewer. The dedicated Nikno RAW editor is Capture NX. You can dowload Capture NX for free for a months trial. It can be a little RAM intensive but it is very good.

With View NX you still have a lot of control of the RAW like white balance, exposure, Active D lighting. You dont get level/curves and other fine editing options in View NX but its generally 90% of what you'll want to/need to do anyway.

Then export as tif or jpeg and edit in photoshop as normal.

Thanks everyone, I didn't realise you have to buy the official software, what a pity.

The camera is just on loan to me for a couple of weeks, so perhaps I will try that free download of Capture NX for the month, thanks for that info Pete.

Photoshop should do all this for you mate. I have a D700 (one of Nikon's latest models) and I have no issues.

If your not using Photoshop or Lightroom you should be imho, plus would make your life easier
