Does anyone know of a Chinese that is located near the Spinnaker Hotel in Salthill? Someone told me it was a good one but can't recall the name myself...

    Cheers.

Oh right. You know the name of the place in Newcastle? Settled for Royal Villa in the end.

It's called Oriental Palace. The food is way better than Royal Villa but the decor isn't. The Oriental don't add MSG to their food, which as far as I am concerned, means less time on the toilet.

We use it for a take out every now and again. Try their Singapore Noodles which is a very tasty dish. :D

Would have to disagree with you completely there. Me and my friends have found the Royal Villa has a much higher standard of food. And as a restaurant/dining experience the oriental isn't even on a par with it. Just my two cents though.

You must be pulling the piss.

Their chicken is like they microwaved it straight from raw

you need to cease eating at the oriental palace immediately

I hear ya. I have never dined in Oriental - just got take-out. The decor is pretty drab alright. I have only been to Royal Villa once in its new incarnation although I had been to the old place on Shop Street many times. Needless to say, I was disappointed with the food and service but in their defence, my only time there was a few weeks after it opened. I'm willing to try it again based on comments here and elsewhere.

Microwaved raw chicken would cause a serious dose of the scutters so I am reluctant to accept your opinion. I was originally attracted to the Oriental by their claim that MSG is not used in their kitchen. I was subsequently impressed by Certificates of Origin for their meat products beside the cash register.

How long were you in hospital after eating the microwaved chicken and how did the court case go?

I generally pick up a take-away on occasions when I am running late or as a treat for my kids. I guess we have been there 6 or 7 times since last Christmas and are happy with them. They gave us free Tiger beer once and free Prawn Crackers on other times.

Previously, we used to go to Canton Cottage in Salthill but the quality dipped when it changed ownership. I never went back.
