    Dear Guys,

I have been living in Ireland frm past 9 years adn I got married abt 2 yrs ago to a beautiful girl. I live in Co west meth.

My wife Jana used to have severe stomach and back pain starting from late last year. We went to our G.P who referred my wife to Ballinasloe hospital . Her first appointment at the hospital was in april-may (roughly) this year. We were referred to Dr. Naveed`s Gynocology clinic at the hospital. The doctor there did ultrasound on Jana and told her she has a cyst in her stomach which was approx. the size of an orange. She said the only way to remove is by surgery which was performed on 9th June 2010 and the surgon told us that the cyst has been drained and it was ok to go home the same day. The doctor did not prescribed Jana any anti-biotics neither. A female doctor after the surgery came to us for like 2 minutes to tell it was all ok and we can go home, and the stitches will dissolve in 7-10 days themselves.

After coming home Jana could feel the same `heaviness` in her stomach like she felt before the operation
. We thought it was normal coz of the operation. But 2-3 weeks later she had the same symptoms , i.e severe back and stomach pain. It was so bad sometimes that Jana could not even walk let alone go to work. 3-4 days after operation we had to go to hospital again coz yana thought somthing was not right on the side, over her waist. The doctor there performed Urine test and found Kidney infection and gave some anti-biotic for it.

The follow-up after the surgery was 6 weeks later and we told doctor Naveed(the surgon who perfomed operation) that Yana has same problem, there was NO improvement. The surgon then said Yana is suffering from Pelvic Infllamatory Disorder and she had to live with the pain for the rest of her life.

After a few days we went to a private clinic in Dublin and the Gynocologist did an ultrasound and found the `cyst` still present in yana`s stomach. We were devestated and to add salt on the injuries there was also bad infection which was not present before surgery(coz we had a check-up through ultrasound by the same doctor in Dublin before the operation ). Because of infection it was hard for Yana to breathe at night while sleeping hence she could not sleep.

So Yana went back to her country on 16th oct and went to hospital there and the doctors found out that Yana has a 13 cm long tumor in her stomach, at the same place where doctor in Ballinasloe claimed they drained the `cyst`.
She is still not back and the operation date for Yana is 8th Nov 2010
, it has been pushed back coz she has bad infection which reached her breathing system (thats why it was hard for her to breathe at night), she is in hopitsal most of the time. The doctor told her if she wud have come after a few months , it might have been harder to save her life coz of the intensity of infection and probably tumor. They are giving some strong anti-biotics to her through her veins every 4 hours or so to kill the infection before she could be treated for an operation , which will be an open surgery.

I am a student at Athlone Institute of Technology and work 8-10 hours a week , and yana was suppose to work full time till my education finished to help us make both ends meet. I am in debt of excess of 2000 euros , coz the medical is expensive in Latvia. I had to ask moneytory help from my friends for Jana`s operation. I believe if it wasnt for the doctors gross negligience in Ballinasloe, Jana would have been better by now , she would not have been in pain, her life would not be at risk and our financial condition wud have been better as she is the main bread winner for the family as i go to college.

Friends , pls help me ,i.r.t. what are my options now? can I sue the hospital? which solicitor will be good for this kind of case , better still , do U know any solicitor who`se good? I am from India so I dont know much how the system works in Ireland.
Hope I will get some useful replies..
    many thanks
    Aby

Op, you won't get any advice on this subject in this forum for either the medical or legal issues you have mentioned. In my opinion you should speak to the Citizens Advise, there is one in Athlone in St Mary's square near to the Town Centre.

We can neither offer medical nor legal advice - you are best speaking to a solicitor that specialises in medical cases.

    All the best.
