Ok so situation is that my sister wants to upgrade her 2 standard Sky boxes to 2 dual feed HD boxes.
She has an upgraded dish that has a twin lnb type. She has one feed going to her living room and one to her bedroom.
She doesn't want to run additional cable so changing to a quad and running two extra feeds is not an option. She's just finished re-decorating!

So what's the options? Would a stacker/destacker work. How do these work? Any other options?

    thanks

A stacker/destacker works by taking the two feeds at 900-2100MHz and shifting them around and combining them so that they occupy a continuous freq range of 5-3500MHz (approx). The destacker does the reverse.

Because you are going up to 3500MHz, it is important that your cable is good quality and doesn't have any joins. Ideally the cable should be copper foil (PH100 or equivalent) and not aluminium foil crap.

The other alternative, if you have specific models of Sky+ boxes, is a Global Invacom SCR MDU kit. This will work over poorer quality cable.

[edit] She should seriously consider running two extra cable instead!

Hmmmm interesting. So with the stacker/destacker option she'd need two of these and to upgrade the lnb to a quad. Would fitting two stackers on a quad lnb cause trouble?

SCR option would mean she'd have to go with original Sky equipment. She'd also need to fit a quattro lnb and a multiswitch. Hmmm sounds expensive

    +1

Honestly it's cheaper to run 2 new cables and pay for the redecoration than get involved in stacker/destackers and the potential that the original cable may not even be up to it!

That would be her best option, I don't see how her decor could be affected by this!
