Ok, so I am an official linux convert, running on both my desktop and netbook. I currently use a borrowed mac to manage my ipod but really want to have a better system.

I've tried the various workaround for managing my ipod but none of them work the way I want, with files going missing, etc.

SO i was thinking of selling my ipod (classic, 120g, good nick should get a bit for it, hopefully) and was wondering what players do you guys use that work in ubuntu really well? I'd be looking for at least 60g, preferably video capabilities, although t hat's not a deal breaker...

Anything that can be mounted as a USB drive and doesn't put DRM on your tunes, after that, go nuts!
    Maybe avoid the Zune.

Anyway, Rythmbox supports iPods/iTouchs/iPhones out of the box since the previous Ubuntu release I thought, obviously not iTunes capabilities but it supports some stuff.

Rythymbox can also manage MTP devices, like my Creative Zen Mosaic or my sister's Sony Walkman, but in my experience this is very touch and go. I don't know if this is because my Zen is such a poor mp3 player, or because of some software. Either way, if you wanted to be sure you'd best go with BobNiblets' advise and get one that can be mounted as a USB drive, and then copy files over.

Also, make sure the one you get can play open-source codecs like ogg. Continue your open-source conversion! :D

    .

yeah, that's what I thought but It's just not a runner for me, for some reason things go missing or don't update on the device... it's too hit n miss for me.

I use playlists a lot, and this is where things go a bit bellyup for me. Presumably I can use something to make playlists and save them then to the player?

Gstreamer based players are a bit of a nightmare at the best of times, so I reckon you should use Audacious. Probably the best music player for Linux(barring mplayer).
