Respray advice

I'm very tempted to get the GTI resprayed. Anyone know anyone that does a decent job for cheapish? I'd only be looking at an outer shell job no need for under bonnet, sills etc done as I want to keep the same colour. Cork area ideally or further afield if very reasonable.

I recently got the rear bumper done after someone hit me and it's nice work, the one thing though is there are a few light hazy fine fine scratches (or at least look like scratches) on the lacquer in bright sunlight. I don't see how that is as it hasn't even been washed since! But in fairness it's a good job overall. The guy that did that work is about 2k for a full respray but ideally I'd like a bit lower than that.

Had a bad experience before where lacquer peeled after a rear quarter panel was repaired. Would a respray make the car less durable to car washes etc? Would there be a risk of happening again?

I am debating just getting the front end resprayed and getting a paint correction on the rest but it is quite shabby and has a few dings and stone chips all over so I would really like to get it done. I reckon a respray and alloy refurb and it'd be pretty sweet!

Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Lacquer only peels if a crappy job has been done. Either it's mixed incorrectly, sprayed incorrectly (With poor masking leading to an edge which can be power washed off), or the base coat is still wet meaning when you hit the lacquer with a power wash, there's nothing to keep it and the base coat from lifting.

Try Body Image in Ballincollig for a quote. Tell Cornell there I sent you, and tell him how much you were quoted. There's very few places I would trust to do a proper job, but they're good at what they do.

Thanks, ya I think that's what could have happened the last time, the plastic rub strip in the middle of the panel was left on and resprayed over. You could see the paint cracking around it.

I'll give body image a shout during the week. Still debating if it's worth it!
