Selling IPhone 3GS - need help

Hi. I got a replacement Iphone 3GS from Apple to replace the one I had under warranty. Different imei number etc. My first one (that they replaced) was bought with vodafone but not locked as I got pre-release. I haven't plugged in the replacement as I had upgraded to IPhone 4 and I am now selling it. The question is how to know if it's unlocked? And if a buyer ( with a meteor sim) tries to activate thru iTunes and it doesn't work, then can I reactivate with someone else? Thanks for any advice.

try it with another sim, activating it wont remove the sim lock either

Guil. Thanks for reply. To clarify. If I put in another sim then activate it I can confirm it's unlocked. If I go the other way, put in vfone sim and activate I'm worried it will download carrier plan etc. For vfone.

Put in any sim except vodafone, if you can activate it, then it is unlocked. Otherwise, itunes will tell you that it can not activate the phone.

You may still be on an old modem firmware, so you can unlock it with ultrasn0w. The use pwnage tool to make a custom firmware to upgrade everything but the baseband firmware.
