    Hi ,

Just wondering if anyone would have any idea as to what could be causing this .

I got the car serviced there a few weeks back and ever since I have noticed a smell of oil inside the car when I turn on the heater , especially when idling at traffic lights .

    John

Check the oil cap and the dipstick, make sure the cap is closed and the dipstick is pushed down all the way.

that can happen if they spill a small bit of oil on top of the engine when refilling it, it will go away after a while if it is, but its worth checking cap it tight etc.

Could be oil on the carmats from mucky feet, get down and sniff them! oOr more likely oil spilled while topping up the engine. You notice it when stationery as the airflow around the engine is not dissipating the smell. Have a look around the engine bay, oil filter housing, top up cap and dipstick, if you see some just try and wipe it off with a rag or use some Gunk (although smells worse than oil) or similar and hose off, taking care to keep away from electrics, and best done away from your driveway.

It's possible that some oil had been spilled onto the engine when filling it up and when the engine is getting hot, the fumes are coming into the cabin.
Bring it back to where you serviced and explain what's wrong - it could just be something simple like the above or a loose oil filter. Keep an eye on your oil level in case it's the latter.

Most likely clumsy hands have spilled oil while filling or taking off oil filter. Check filler cap area for signs of spillage, likewise the oil filter location...Suppose its possible a breather pipe has been left off too....

I'd tend to agree, whenever I change the oil on the sister's Ford Ka I always end up spilling some from the filter on the downpipe from the engine, I wipe it off but some folk wouldn't be arsed.

Once again Boards to the rescue .......

The cap wasn't completely tight and there was oil spilled around the area . I will try and give it a bit of a clean up tomorrow .

    Thanks again to all

Go back to the garage, make them clean it up and tell them to dip it and top it up if necessary.
