Can someone tell me if I should stop using my electric blanket at night and if it's ok to eat smoked salmon, prawns and philadelphia cheese??

    Thanks

I'd say no to all the food. some specialists say yes you can eat them and some say you can't so best to just avoid it altogether.

The Electric blanket should be fine. as long as your temperature doesn't rise too much!

Ask your gp but all shell fish is normally recommeded.
All soft pasteurised cheese is safe.

just be sensible. if you are out and not sure about the restaurant or the source do not eat fish - any kind smoked or shellfish. all pasturised cheese is ok.
if you are opening a pack of smoked salmon yourself, then i would work away, if prawns are cooked, i have eaten them.
things to avoid - some say tuna because of mercury levels, keep to moderation, wash all fruit and veg well to avoid ecoli (applies anyway), some say caffene is bad for baby - consultants have told me a cup or 2 a day is ok, but better to have real coffee then instant, have your meat well done, pate is not advised and peanuts if there is an allergy in the family.

Basically avoid anything that is not pasteurised, eggs, cheese etc... Be careful with Mayonnaise. Your standard jar of Helmans is fine. You'll find yourself reading packaging alot more now.

    Avoid 'whippee' ice cream

I wouldn't recommend shellfish, just because it can be so touch and go as to whether you get a bad prawn. If you are going to eat it, make sure its well cooked.

If you already eat alot of peanuts, there is no need to excluse them completely from your diet. However, if you're not a peanut eater, now isn't the time to start eating them.

2 'caffeine' beverages a day is supposed to be ok in pregnancy. I found that I went off tea/coffee etc... anyway.

Its up to you if you want to use your lekkie blanket. Its recommended that you avoid anything in pregnancy that is going to raise your core body temperature too much - hot baths, jacuzzi's, saunas, execessive exercise, electirc blankets. I guess if you're not leaving it on all night you'll be safe enough
