If you could write to an agony aunt about your cycling-related problems, what would you write? I'll start:

    Dear Alice,

I have spent all my money on winter apparel for the bike. I have just clicked away an idiotic sum on a jacket from some shower in Switzerland that I didn't know existed six months ago. But I don't feel guilty and the children are looking a bit chubby these days anyway.

My problem is that since I began cycling, I have not bought a single item of civilian clothing. My wife says that two pairs of jeans, three T shirts (one of which says "France '98"), a shirt and a fleece is not a large enough wardrobe for an adult male. She did not appreciate when I said that it would be if she would just wash a bit quicker. She says she feels uncomfortable being married to a man who has more tights than trousers and owns something called "bib knickers".

My undeniable sex appeal is just about holding the marriage together but I need your help.

    Yours in desperation,

    MWAP

    Dear MWAP,

Many pedal cyclists have to maintain that delicate balance between awesomeness on the road and stability at home. This can permeate many aspects of one's relationship and your sartorial dilemma is not entirely untypical. Perhaps you have encountered a phenomenon called the "sportive". This is an event where one can display one's latest acquisitions to a large group of like-minded individuals whilst augmenting one's supply of T shirts.

    Always glad to help.

    Alice

PS I can confirm that I am exceedingly hot.
