Webmail forwarding

Before the college closes down my account I want to forward on all my emails to my gmail account but when I try to add it I get the following warning

Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password.

The settings I am using are
UN: My student number
Pass: My password
POP Server:mail.nuim.ie
Port:110

Any know what I am doing wrong?

Either popstore.nuim.ie or mail.nuim.ie (hell, even smtp.nuim.ie!) will work as addresses, as they both resolve to the same IP address. The port used should be 995, and given that Gmail will be accessing from off campus, you will likely need SSL enabled.

I have just done the same. Does this mean that even after the computer centre close my nuim account I will receive mail to my google address that has been sent to my nuim address? That would be very handy indeed.

If the CC actually close your account, then this won't work, because that email address will no longer exist to receive mails.

To be honest, describing this as forwarding is probably a bit misleading or inaccurate, given what is actually happening. With this setup, the college handles your mail as normal, but gmail collects a copy of the messages from the mailbox for itself periodically. Thus if the account is closed, then the mailbox ceases to exist, and it can't be collected from.

Oh I see, thanks. It was worth a try anyway. It's really useful to have my nuim emails sent on to google for now anyway.
