UK import insurance

    Hi All,
I wonder could someone clear something up for me. I am thinking of buying a car imported from the UK. (The car is already in a dealer's in Ireland).

Will insuring this car in ireland difficult/more expensive than the Irish equivalent? I saw in the terms and conditions on some insurance websites that they assume the car is not imported. Does this rule apply to UK imports or is it targeted at Jap imports?

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Cheers
    JJ

You would need to check with your insurance company. In general it refers to Jap imports though. I asked my broker a few years ago, and they said that they would not load me whatsoever for a UK import, and they're not usually afraid to charge extra for things like that.

If it's coming in from the UK then it's already got EU type approval so no insurance company should have a problem covering it.

I queried this when I had a Jap import several years ago, as all cars are imported into Ireland*. The insurance company didn't like me pointing this out. It's only for non EU market cars.
