I've just set up tethering over bluetooth with laptop & Iphone 4 on vodafone network. Working fine over 3G. Are there any charges incurred if you have the data add on ? Im hoping not.....

    How would they know ?

i think there is, the tethering apn is hidden and not configurable by the user, its set by the carrier file, best bet is to ring them up but if they charge for tethering, expect a big bill

Thanks guil. You are correct. I've just confirmed that the 1GB tethering add-on is 20euro and unlike the data add-on which is useable abroad, the tethering bundle can only be used in Ireland. That shags that anyway ! B'strds

thats a joke, 20 quid for 1gb, ya get 15gb for 20 with o2 and it can be used on the phone and for tethering

Does the mywy app you get from cydia not allow you to tether from your iPad or laptop through your iPhone without incurring tethering charges?

    download pdanet from cydia

allows you to tether without needing an extra package from vodafone.

    Works great for me.

That won't work for iPhone to iPad cos there's no ad hoc network

yep ditto with me, i jailbroke my iPhone and have installed the MyWy app onto my phone, and i'm tethering to my iPad now, still have to wait and see for sure if vodafone dont charge me for it but i checked all over the net and folk saying that it doesnt come up as tethering, which is exactly why i didnt buy the 3G iPad, put the extra cash towards the 32 gg

the app costs 20 dollars for the licence once the trial is over but i def thinki will be payin that, was brilliant being able to use my iPad yesterday heading up to the airport, likewise if im ever on the move travelling etc

I bought the full app and it's well paid for itself by now. Was on the train to Galway a few times recently and I was so glad I bought it. Tethered my iPad and my son's 3GS at the same time. Well worth it.

Yeah like i said it the reason why i didn't go for a 3G version of the iPad, I tough the iPad could tether to the iphone before I got it through the bluetooth but was a bit disappointed as tought I had wasted the money when it couldn't be done, but this app has been a lifesaver, now get to use my iPad on the move and save myself paying a data plan like the networks charge, plus I didn't have to spend as much on it either to do so :D
