    Fairly decent on fuel.
    How much to service

Depends on who services it and what needs to be done. There are no set service pricing for any car.
How much milage can you put up before they start to have problems

Depends on how well its serviced and looked after. There is no set figure for this either. It could give problems at 60k or 160k.
    Do they hold their value

No car holds its value, but an A6 shouldn't lose as much as some others. A 5 series may possibly be a better car for small depreciation.

    Thanks

    Your welcome. :)

Avoid the 2L TDI if you can, some expensive problems are cropping up.

Its hard to avoid the 2ltr. Its either the 1.9 which is totally underpowered for the size of the car. The other option is the 2.7 or 3.0 tdi whaich will put you in the high tax. Try and get one in a s-line spec.

The "BLB" engine code give trouble with the oil pump failing.
Be prepared to replacerd the DMF at anything between 80-100k miles and some of them are giving injector trouble.
On long distance driving you will get anything from 1000-1100kms to a full tank.

The 1.9 TDi was discontinued after the 1997 to 2004 A6.

We had a pair of identical 2005 A6 2.0Tdi's with a customer, that came back earlier this year.

Both eventually came back with around 180,000km on, and they'd had the same servicing at the same dealers / indy's throughout their lives.

We ended up over €6,000 down on the maintenenace of one of them as it had loads of stuff go wrong with it (can't remember specifics), but we were over €2,000 up on the other one because it was very reliable.

Obviously the drivers were different, but that shouldn't make such a big difference. It's probably all down to how well they were screwed together in the factory - although I'd be surprised if they didn't go through the production line together.

Thinking of an A6 2008 as a family car, at about the upper limit of my price range (15-24k), what are the ongoing costs like?
