Hello, Just got a quote for Quad lock system build, foundation, walls, flat roof complete, pitched roof excl. slate, garage for a 3000sq ft house, U value 0.19, air tight <2m3/hr in County Tipp. 131 000 E plus Vat. How does that sound? That works out at 50E/sq ft.

    My questions are:

Would building with concrete block save us a good bit of money?

What other costs are there (excluding the obvious Kitchen, floors, bathrooms) and how much should we budget for them?

Also, any opinions about the ICF is gratly appreciated.

Thank you JuniorB. What a fine house you will have. It looks like the quote we got is a bit high! Back to shopping around :-0

Sorry, meant to say that is block build with 150mm cavity filled with beads. You're quote may not be too far off for that build type ... someone else might let you know on that..

I used Quadlock for my building and the main reason was value for money. I have my own website <SNIP> if it is of any use that explains where we wer coming from.

But in short - the u value, air-tightness and long term cost of running the house (heating etc) is great. We did not have to have any heating (underfloor, radiators etc) so no boilers, geothermal, biomass or anything so like that so think about how much we saved in labour, boilers as well as the long term cost of oil, pellets etc etc.

For us thats the main reason for choosing an ICF construction method. Why did we choose Quadlock when there are many others out there - one reason <SNIP> - they were simply brilliant and helped us no end with our build.

    Hope that helps

    Thank you for your replies.

Tonytiger, I am familiar with you web site, I have registered but did not received an activation email. Your house does look fantastic, quite similiar to what we are proposing to build.
Can you please PM me the activation email, I would love to browse it further.
