    Hi all,
Just wondering, I was with a guy last night, and the condom split during intercourse, there was no ejaculate transferred, but I'm just wondering if I should take the MAP just to be on the safe side. I got my period a few hours ago.
This is probably a basic question that someone my age should know, but am I fertile right before my period?

Highly unlikely op. You're fertile around 14days beforehand.

I would take the MAP to be on the safe side, you can get pregnant from the sperm present in pre-ejaculate. it will put your mind at ease some too.
also good idea to get tested, if you and this guy haven't been tested recently.

To be safe you should get the MAP because although there was no ejaculate, there was still a possibility of pre cum!

It sounds like you were 'safe'- but take the MAP anyway. pre-ejaculate contains sperm, and it can survive for a couple of days - you can spend the next few days bewildering yourself with the algebra & whatif scenarios - or you can get the MAP. Just do it.

SHE GOT HER PERIOD, SHE IS NOT PREGNANT.

OP the MAP is a very harsh drug to take if you don't need it, you will likely experience a very large hormonal flush on your system which can present itself from feeling moody, to feeling ill, to breaking out in a lots of spots.

Yes, there are rare cases of people having two ovulation cycles, but no cases of people getting a period while pregnant.

But the real truth of the matter is you should talk to your doctor and not ask for such advice from an internet forum.

Yes she got her period, but who knows how regular her cycle is or how long it is?

I would take the MAP anyway.....it will be ease of mind.

Get STD test done too...if neither of you have done recently.

As for the MAP being bad on your system? Ive taken it quite a number of times and personally never had any bad side effects and ive never heard anyone having side effects from it. So dont let that put you off taking it.

When in doubt, check it out and go and talk to Well Woman's clinic or GP etc for more advice on what to do.

Hi OP. I don't want to panic you as hopefully you're grand and I don't know if conception can even happen this quickly but I imagine there is an outside possibility of your pregnancy so you might want to do something. Why don't you give your doc a call (or another doc if you're uncomfortable using oyur own) and tell them about your situation and ask them should you take the MAP? You could always tell them that if there's any chance of you getting into trouble then you want the MAP and see what they say. I'm sure they'll probably advise you on the phone as I can't imagine that an examination would change anything, although if you do end up deciding to have the MAP you'll have to be examined to get the script. Medical advice from a medical professional is probably what you need here! Good luck with it!

OP, we can't say for certain if you were fertile or not. Every woman's cycle is unique. A trip to your GP or Wellwoman Clinic should help sort you out.

I don't like to say this, but you may also want to consider an STI check.

Actually bleeding while pregnant is relatively common, implantation bleeds even more so and other than doing a microscopic check for ovum, I'm not sure how you would tell the difference, especially if the OP has light periods - she said she only started bleeding a couple of hours ago - I'm not sure how you get to shout she has a period and isn't pregnant from that.

One of my friends got pregnant having intercourse during her period. Your egg can still be in the uterus until the end of your period.

OP, I would ask a doctor.

    Hi, OP here.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Just to clarify, I've just recently stopped taking the pill, so my cycle is a little askew at the moment.
This happened on Friday night, I might give my doctor a buzz tomorrow and see what she thinks. Hope I haven't left it too late.??
Maybe I'm being stupid, but my intuition tells me I'm fine, I got my period about 8-9 hours after the intercourse and there definitely wasn't any ejaculation at the point where the condom split. But, yeah, I'll phone just to be on the safe side.

Point also taken re STI checks, he told me he had taken one recently and he was okay, but I've never had one.

    Thanks again everyone.
