Has anyone bought cigarettes from a shop, only to discover they are copies?
Its bad enough paying 8.50 for them and then to realise that there fake grrr.

Get on to Revenue about them. Whatever about selling untaxed ciggies, selling counterfeits for full price is not on.

Yea its disgraceful. Was on the revenue website there, found a freephone number.
The cigarettes are 100% counterfeit however im a bit uncertain about something- i cant remember the woman in the shop scanning the cigarettes, im nearly certain she took them from the machine and handed them straight to me, this is leading me to believe that the actual staff could be selling them without the shop owner knowing.

Counterfeit or not, you should not smoke, it's bad for you and makes you smell bad :D

I've bought some packs that have had a very strange texture and feel. Its pissed me right off.

I was given counterfeit cigarettes by someone who bought them knowingly. (not from a retailer)

You would find it difficult to tell the difference package-wise until you compared the pack to a genuine one.

It even had a fake duty paper stuck on the back of the pack. The writing was a bit smaller and the blue pack a slightly different shade (John Player Blue)

They certainly tasted different - kind of like Malboro Lights.

Wasnt aware of any shops selling them though! You must have been rightly p***ed off!

Given the price of 20 ciggies, it is probably a lot cheaper, easier and profitable to make fake cigarettes than to print counterfeit money!

Plus the amount of investment needed to get it right would probably make you think that it is very dodgy criminal groups that are making them so the outcome of a counterfeit feg could mean money going to terrorism or drug gangs.

I'd advise anyone to dispassionately tell the Revenue. If they have nothing to hide they have nothing to fear.

I bought 20 john player blue, but the pack i was sold were not real john player blues they were fake, some examples of the differences were the writing on the actual cigarette was different, the box practically fell apart, the duty stamp was different when compared to others, the john player crest on the front of the box was flat, rather than slightly ridged on the real cigarette boxes, the actual cigarette was awful to smoke, left a burning feeling in the back of my throat, burned very very quicky and smelled like a cigar

I actually wont buy john player anymore unless i know for definite that they are genuine! Im that annoyed over it.. apparently they are the main cigarettes being copied in Ireland, just my luck grrr! May find another brand.

I reported what happened anyway, they said they have had a couple of reports about the same place, least i know im not a paranoid freak now haha.. i pray this is not happening everywhere
