Is he not graduate of Pat's? NUIM only came into being in 1997. Still, it's great an all.

Meh, I did my degree in St Pat's for three years then all of a sudden in 4th year I was an 'NUIM student' and amongst the first class of graduates from NUIM.

    Mere technicality Sardonicat, mere technicality.

Er, if it wasn't for Callan we wouldn't have cars, heavy machines, anything else that you need a big voltage to start... I think that does a little more than flesh out the list a bit!

(Or at least we wouldn't be able to have them so available and easy-to-use...)

And there was me, an experimental physics student, thinking that all he did was give his name to an uncomfortable lecture hall and a building that is never quite at the right temperature. I guess you learn something new everyday...........

Why was Bono even in the running?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 912 ✭✭✭Norrdeth

Because he does charity and all that stuff, and sold a load of cds.

And there was me, mathematical physics student, just thinking out loud not knowing your background at all, and not having a go or assuming anyone's ignorance, thinking that all I was doing was contributing to an interesting discussion. Touchy?

The fact is that he and other members in U2 have contributed to charity work and raising the awareness of social issues. Even if it just was for publicity reasons, it still brings these issues to the public's attention.
Also what about the 5m musicians fund that was announced?

You can debate Bono's merits all day long but to include him in the Top 5 Irish people of all time is pretty laughable, but what is even more shocking is that Stephen Gately was in the Top 10. To be fair to John Hume, he is a deserved winner but the inclusion of certain people on this list has made the honour seem less prestigious.

IMO They put them there just to fill the gaps :P Top 4 people doesn't sound as good =/

Why is it the only person from U2 who we hear about this work from is Bono though? he knows he's getting personal gain from it and it's quite obvious that the other members are embarrassed by him when he starts all this.

I have no problem with charity work, I fully support it and I know that it's bringing the issues to the public eye but I'd rather see Bono shut his mouth, donate some of that money that he should be paying tax on and let people see the issues that way instead of listening to him preach constantly.

I have a much closer link with some of the issues he goes on about than he does.

Jayziz, a thread about the most prestigious graduate from our campus turns into a thread about Bono. Is there anything Bono doesn't get involved in? :D
