Currently in agony with wisdom teeth, bottom ones buried in gum mostly.
Have appointment with dentist on tuesday morning, hoping I get referral to oral surgeon to get them removed.

What is the waiting time like in the <snip>?

    Many thanks!

Is this for a GA?, do you have to have a GA? or would sedations be sufficient. I can recommend a surgeons who has very little waiting time for sedation procedures. An no it doesnt cost a fortune.

Thanks for your reply! They are pretty well buried, so I would expect that I'd need a GA :( Don't know however, going to talk to my dentist first thing tues and see what they say.

I needed to have my wisdom teeth taken out about a year ago. My dentist sent me to the <snip> and i was about to go ahead with the operation there, only i found out that other places are far cheaper. I had vhi and with some surgeons all you have to do is pay a consultation fee and insurance covers the operation. This wasn't the case with the <snip> and by looking for another surgeon i saved around €700. Could find his name if you want to check him out. I had the operation done in clane.

Thanks, my health insurance would cover me aswell for <snip>

Just wondering what the waiting times are like from dentist referral to actual surgery. They are causing me some serious grief at the moment!

There is a difference in oral surgeons and VHI. Some surgeons are part participating and some are fully participating. The fully participating one you pay the consult only, the part participating ones you pay the consult and a top up. As you may guess your better with a fully participating one if you have VHI.

The wait wont be long, certainly if you don't need a GA. THe GA is more for the hospital to make money than for you. The operation is the same whether you under GA or sedation. Personally I prefer sedation, safer, no nausea, sore throat, risk of death and all that...
