5 yr old grinding teeth

My 5 yr old is grinding his teeth when he is asleep. I have wormed him and this is definitely not the cause. I noticed that one of his teeth were chipped and I assumed that he had knocked it when playing etc, but now I have noticed that he is wearing down all of his teeth with this grinding. He still has all his baby teeth but do I bring him to the dentist for a gum shield or what is the correct thing to do?
    Any help would be appreciated.

he should be getting his first molar teeth about now. you'll often get a little bit of grinding associated with teething.
    i wouldn't think a gumshield is necessary.

very common in children and nothing to worry about. Ask your dentist if your worried. Often the child teeth are worn very flat, it does not cause problems with the secondary teeth.
