Mercedes Rust Damage. Scrap or sell the parts?

I saw the other thread about rust damage but have decided it is time to dispose of this vehicle. It is a 99 E200 and the damage is on the chasis where the spring sits behind the drivers side fron tire. My mechanic says it would be a pretty big job and there's no guarantee it would pass an NCT, plus there are probably other areas on the chasis where rust may be a problems. So we have decided to dispose of it. There are still a lot of good parts on it and it seems a shame to send it to the scrap heap. They are lovely cars and for those folks out there with ones still on the road, I'm sure they need parts. Any suggestions of a good place to advertise?

    Thanks

I'd definitely break it first of all, if it's got a nice leather interior and decent alloys you're bound to get a few hundred for these alone.

Similarly if the door cards are good there's money to be had in them as well, you may get something for the engine too but they are normally tough enough and the E200 is a very common engine for an E-class so I don't know if you'll get anything there but it's worth a shot all the same!

Other electrical bits like airbag sensors, steering wheel, bits of the centre console may be worth something as well if they are not the poverty spec version.

Try an Irish Merc owners' site first of all, also try done deal.

whatever you do make sure to get a certificate of destruction, its the only thing that can deregister a car, you can only get these from Authorised Treatment Facility. You have to take your car intact to ATF so be careful because you may not get cod if you bring it to atf less than intact. our company gmr greener metal recycling(formerly IAES) is a licenced atf. further details on www.elvs.ie

    Hi nialler,

She does have alloys. It's still at the mechanics but I can run down there in the next day or so to get snaps of all 4 and send them to you.
