Tell me why the new Fiat 500 is crap.

Looking at de-emigrating after 12 years in the 'States. If bringing my Jeep back with me ends up being a bad idea, I'm considering a Fiat 500 (probably a 1.4-litre manual) as the on-the-ground car and getting something a bit more Jeep-like later.

We're only going to be getting them starting in January, so I have next to no experience with them. I did briefly drive a 1.2 a couple of years ago, which was nice, but would like a bit more go from it than that had. A/C is a requirement; won't own a modern car without it again.

Any reason why I shouldn't be looking at them?

Other than that a great car. Maybe look into the 2 cylinder model if they are available or a diesel if you plan on selling in the not to distant future

Not a huge deal - single, no kids. As long as it can hold me, my girlfriend, and enough in the way of bags for a few days away that'll be fine.

I like the 2-cylinder from a technical standpoint (and as a past 2CV owner, I do have some bigotry in that regard), but it doesn't seem like it'll be as much of a driver's car as the 1.4. Could be wrong... But I really love being able to just boot it around.

Completely agreed. But from what I remember trying to get insurance at age 18 on a Capri... I may as well just bring the 4.0-litre Jeep over and drive that without swapping it to diesel and RHD for what it'll cost in insurance.

Let's just say that my Irish licence expired a few years back and I'm going to have to go through new-driver-hell all over again for a few years until the NCB builds up.

Agreed it is a great little car.... it amazes me that the 1.2 lump is still the same unit used from the original Punto (ok it has multipoint fuel injection and a much stronger head gasket :D), I've driven the same car in Ford guise (Ka) and I just find the Fiat has thatbit more flair. Would love a spin in the 1.4

Welcome home by the way ! Em, you have been watching the news though haven't you ? Think Mad Max... Ireland has changed !!!!

Why not try the punto evo. Seen one the other day. Anyone know how much one of them cost.

In Ireland you will only find the 1.2 model.

I have 1.2 Lounge - has A/C, Glassroof and Bluetooth.. Great car and we have 2 kids... both 3 years old.

We do have a 7 seater too for longer trips, but we love the 500 for pottering about. Expect 50mpg no bother - even when pushing it I get 45mpg.

The boot with car my suitcase and laptop bag no problem or 4/5 bags of shopping.

Road tax is €104 and it will turn in a circle on most roads.. plus you you have the CITY steering too for weaving round knack bags in town.
