Sounds like a mixer of sludge/dirt and evidence of copper corrosion reaction.
System probably never flushed and cleansed or inhibitor put in to it.
green like substance could be sealing compound reacting to sludge at fitting and air oxidising.

Yep - it's leaking but ever so slightly.

You'll need to have it repaired in case it gets worse.

the weap over time has caused it to go green like that and I would advise trying to clean it up as it may cause more problems, you need to get it replaced.

I guess a plumber is required ??Would I be better to get my heating system flushed when I am at it.

Chances are the system will have to be drained downed to repair the leak so you might get bthe pumber to put in cleanser in to the system a day or so before. This will help lodged any dirt and sludge in the system.

After the repairs the system may need to be flushed again and make sure inhibitor is put in to the system to reduce the chance of corrosion etc.
