please help - dell laptop keyboard suddenly not working

    hi - sorry for the short message keyboard on my laptop suddenly doesn't work - any ideas - typed this using on screen keyboard - thks

    Happened to me also about 2 years ago with my Dell Inspiron, for no reason at all the keys wouldn't work anymore, I had to buy a keyboard and plug it into USB port. Even though it is a nuisance, they are available cheaply enough like this one from Argos

    I know a solution would be better but in the interim this option is open to you. Sorry I can't be more helpful :-(

    thks for the suggestion but can't understand how it worked earlier tonight and then stopped without a restart - running anti-virus now so hopefully

    Hi mpearse

    Sorry for stating the obvious but it could be a lot of things. If you click on caps lock does the caps lock light come on? If it doesnt your keyboard cable might have come loose from the motherboard.

    Have you installed any new device or software?

    Your best bet is to get a technician to look at it or get an external keyboard like RebelScorned said.

    when you turn on the laptop can you access the bios or boot menu by hitting the F2 or F12 keys?

    its a laptop so no external connor caps lock - such a dose

    hiya dazzday - what a legend - thanks ever so much - that worked.

    Powered off - took out the battery and off we go.

    Not sure if it was windows updates - or whatever was running in the background - either way - hats off dazzday and thanks again - LEGEND
